The Greenbrier Companies

Summit’s mission was to work with Congress and the Administration (United States Department of Transportation (DOT)/Federal Railroad Administration (FRA)/Pipeline and Hazardous Material Safety Administration (PHMSA)) to secure federal legislation and regulations to ensure the safe transportation of flammable liquids by rail.

Securing Highway Funding

The US 12 Highway Coalition enlisted the Partners at Summit Strategies to help them advocate and secure funding for safety improvements along the roadway including four-laning the highway, flattening slopes, realigning the roadway to current design standards, providing new and updated barriers where needed, limiting access, and greatly reducing more than 100 access points.

Rails To Trails Conservancy – Innovative Transportation Financing

Working on behalf of the Rails to Trails Conservancy (RTC), Summit Strategies and O’Keeffe Strategies teamed together to successfully advocate for changes to our Nation’s primary federal loan program providing innovative financing for transportation projects.

Mill Creek Flood Control Project

Alongside the Mill Creek Coalition, Summit Strategies worked with the Washington State Congressional delegation to strongly advocate for a GI Study of the Mill Creek Flood Control Channel. After five years of advocacy, it was announced that Walla Walla’s Mill Creek Flood Control project would be included in the US Army Corps of Engineers 2018 Work Plan as one of the year’s six projects nationwide.

Oregon SunGrowers’ Guild

Summit’s efforts resulted in the derailment of the legislation that would have consolidated all growers under the OLCC and gutted the OMMP. Then, working with a small subcommittee of legislators and key stakeholders, we were able to ensure passage of HB 2198, which creates the Oregon Cannabis Commission. The Commission will determine the future governance structure for modernizing the medical program, ensure patient access to affordable medicine, and support research.

Aviation Solutions: Small Communities Air Service Development

Summit Strategies has helped multiple communities resolve outstanding aviation related issues including problems associated with a lack of air service into and out of small regional airports, air traffic control tower funding, noise mitigation issues, and more.

Clackamas County – Sunrise Corridor

The partners at Summit Strategies worked with the County to design and implement a plan to structure and fund the project, including breaking the project up into phases. We worked closely with the County to brief the Oregon Congressional delegation regularly, giving them a near constant stream of information on the project, the importance of it to the economic health of the County, and the development of its industrial lands and critical private sector partners. We worked to put together a coalition of other local governments, organizations and private businesses to lobby Congress and the state on the project. And we worked with the Oregon Department of Transportation to ensure that the project featured in their plans going forward.
