Mark Dedrick, a founding partner of Summit Strategies, brings more than 28 years of government and government affairs experience to his representation of public sector, private industry and non-profit clients before Congress and federal agencies. He focuses on solving problems and finding solutions, primarily on transportation, economic development, and natural resource issues. Since the launch of Summit Strategies, Mark has helped his clients secure hundreds of millions of dollars in federal funding. Mark’s policy knowledge and understanding of how the Hill works have helped clients solve problems through the passage of legislation, creation of new federal programs in larger authorization bills, and carefully worded Appropriations report language.
Before helping to found Summit Strategies in 2015, Mark spent nine years as a member of the Government Affairs practice group at Ball Janik, a firm headquartered in Portland, Oregon. During his more than eight years on Capitol Hill, Mr. Dedrick served for three years as Legislative Director for Congresswoman Darlene Hooley (D-Oregon). He managed legislative operations, developed policy positions and formulated strategy, specializing in appropriations, transportation, natural resources, agriculture, science, and telecommunications issues. Mr. Dedrick had previously worked on similar issues for Congressman Rush Holt (D-New Jersey) and Congressman Tony Hall (D-Ohio).
Mark and his wife, Kathy, live on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. A native Oregonian, Mark travels frequently to the west coast for work, recreation, and to visit his family in his hometown of Silverton. When not working, Mark enjoys live music, buying more records than his wife would like, travel, frequenting area farmers markets, and cooking the things that he finds there.
